» chipbreaker « - patent confirmed

After more than 5 years of legal dispute at the European Patent Office in Munich Sandvik`s objection against the » chipbreaker « patent EP 1 023 961 could finally be rejected.

The patent was confirmed by the Patent Office with the certificate of December 2, 2009.

The decision of the Patent Office which was eagerly expected in the tool industry strengthens the position of LACH DIAMANT - the PCD and PCBn tool manufacturer.

Recently on the occasion of EMO 2007 exhibition LACH DIAMANT had warned about an infringement of existing patents.

The background is the procedure found by LACH DIAMANT to form a recess in the tool face - the so-called » chipbreaker « - by removal of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) respectively CBN (PCBn) by means of laser or spark erosion.

Especially in the booming processing of ultralight materials - such as aluminium in the automobile and aircraft industries - the use of cutting tools with chipbreaker becomes more and more indispensable.

The » chipbreaker « patent includes PCD/PCBn cutting edges which are manufactured both by means of laser and spark erosion and used for turning - milling - boring and reaming with chipbreaking application.
